RTL2 launches on SES Astra’s HD+

The high-definition version of German free-to-air channel RTL2 will launch on SES Astra’s HD+ service in December.

The general entertainment service will be the seventh privately owned free-to-air channel on the platform, which launched in November 2009 and allows German consumers to access HD channels via DTH. SES Astra sais that 300,000 HD+ set-tops and 1.2 million smart cards have been sold since launch
“The launch of RTL2 HD will further extend the program choice of HD+ and make it even more attractive,” said Wilfried Urner, managing director of HD+. “The receiver sales demonstrate the popularity of the unique offer and prove that we have developed a successful platform for broadcasters who want to launch high-definition channels in Germany.”
