Italian ISP launch Rome Âopen FTTHÂ pilot
Italian service providers Fastweb, Wind and Vodafone have launched a pilot of their proposed open fibre network in the Fleming area of Rome.
The Fleming point-to-point fibre-to-the-home project connects 7,400 households in 525 residential buildings. The trio have called for an open point-to-point FTTH network to cover 10 million people in 15 cities over five years, with an investment of Â2.5bn to be shared between participating operators and public institutions. A second phase could see the network extended to 50% of the countryÂs population, requiring an estimated total investment of Â8.5bn.
