Sky’s Darcey: BBC “learned lessons” from Kangaroo

BSkyB chief operating officer Mike Darcey has said that the BBC and ITV learned from the presentational mistakes they made with the abortive Kangaroo online video joint venture in order to make sure that the Office of Fair Trading did not refer Project Canvas to the Competition Commission.

Darcey, who told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that Kangaroo had given the pair a lesson in how to avoid being seen to be a joint-venture, said he believed the connected TV proposal was now a “shoe-in” for final approval by the BBC Trust. However, he reiterated Sky’s hostility to Canvas and said the BBC should not be in the business of “developing platforms”.
