Mediaset chief attacks Sky Italia “monopoly”

Mediaset chairman and long-time Silvio Berlusconi confidante Fedele Confalonieri has accused News Corp-backed pay-TV provider Sky Italia of having a “monopolistic position” in the country.

Confalonieri, interviewed by the Financial Times, said that Sky Italia should not be allowed to operate services on the country’s digital-terrestrial platform unless it opened its own satellite platform to Mediaset, which does operate premium services on the DTT platform.
