Juniper acquires online media specialist Ankeena

Broadband router provider Juniper Networks has acquired online media infrastructure provider Ankeena Networks for approximately US$100m (€75m).

Juniper will integrate Ankeena’s, technology, which it says delivers online video and other content at scale and reduced cost, into its portfolio of products.

Ankeena’s main product is the Media Flow Director, which  offers support for adaptive streaming technologies. According to Juniper, Ankeena’s multi-tier caching technology also provides a tenfold reduction in the number of servers required to deliver media content.
