Ofcom refuses BBC’s Freeview anti-piracy request

UK communications regulator Ofcom has rejected the BBC’s request for anti-piracy technology to be introduced to the Freeview DTT platform in order to curb illegal copying of HD content.

The BBC, which will begin HD broadcasts on Freeview next month, is seeking to change the multiplex licence to allow for copy protection technology. Ofcom has turned down the request until issues raised by other parties have been addressed.
