Russian channels to fall under state control

Two of Russia’s few remaining independent TV channels, Ren TV and St Petersburg’s Fifth Channel, are to come under state control next year, according to press reports.

The news bulletins of the two channels, which have occasionally aired the views of opposition politicians, are to be restructured and taken over by state-owned English-language channel Russia Today, according to reports in the Komersant newspaper.
