Zon launches Europe’s first 1Gbps service

Portuguese MSO Zon Multimedia has launched a 1Gbps broadband service.

Zon said it was the first European operator to offer such speeds, with only Korea and Japan having done so before. The operator will market the Fiber Zon service as part of a triple-play package that includes the Funtastic TV service, featuring 110 channels, the Videoclube on-demand service and unlimited fixed-line calls in Portugal and to 20 other countries. The package will cost €249.90 for a year as well as an activation and installation fee of €99, which will be waived until the end of the year.
