Zee ups African output with new Kwesé channels
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited is due to launch two new channels, Zee Bollymovies and Zee Bollynova, on African pay TV network Kwesé TV.
Zee Bollymovies will air Bollywood movies and series while Zee Bollynova will air a mix of general entertainment programming, showcasing telenovelas and cooking programmes.
“ZEE is continuously striving to make further in-roads into the African continent. We have packaged our latest offerings, Zee Bollymovies and Zee Bollynova with content adapted to suit the African viewer. Both channels are customized and dubbed in English,” said Zee TV Africa CEO, Harish Goyal.
The president and group CEO of Kwese’s parent company, Econet Media, said: “As a new African broadcaster we want to ensure that our viewers have access to a diverse content offering that cuts across all programming genres.”
Zee first moved into Africa two years ago with the launch of Zee World in February 2015, followed by Zee Magic in October 2015, targeting English and French speakers respectively.
News of the new channels launches come in the same month that Kwese announced it will be exclusively adding Vice Media’s youth-focused Viceland channel to its entertainment offering across Sub-Saharan Africa.
