Nokia launches €55,000 OZO virtual reality camera
Nokia launched its OZO virtual reality camera in Europe at an event in London last night and announced that the device would retail for €55,000.
The camera, which is already available in the US priced at US$60,000, is designed to capture “immersive virtual reality experiences” and Nokia announced supporting VR post-production service deals with specialist Deluxe, adding that post-production software tools from London-based The Foundry will also soon support 3D content created with OZO.
At the same time, Nokia announced the launch of a new program “to enable innovators to create virtual reality experiences that demonstrate the full potential of the medium.”
Those who want to take part in the programme and create VR content using the OZO camera will have until April 30 to apply. Participants will get a €15,000 discount on their purchase of OZO.
“Virtual Reality is the next frontier in storytelling, and OZO is designed to provide professional content creators with an innovative solution to produce great VR experiences,” said Paul Melin, vice-president of digital media at Nokia Technologies.
“Nokia wants to help drive the creation of content that demonstrates the possibilities of this medium in collaboration with innovators at the cutting edge of VR production, and the Pioneer Program is designed to tap into the full creativity of the VR community.”
